A total of 338 houses were affected. In Bac Ha district, 333 houses sustained partial damage, mainly due to broken fibro-cement roofing sheets. In Muong Khuong district, strong winds completely tore off the roofs of five houses. Additionally, two auxiliary structures, including kitchens and yards, were damaged in Muong Khuong commune.
Agricultural losses
Agriculture suffered heavy damage, with a total of 485.5 hectares of crops affected. Specifically, 370 hectares of industrial crops and fruit trees were damaged, all in Bac Ha commune. Annual crops accounted for 115.5 hectares of damage, including 115 hectares in Bac Ha and 0.5 hectares in Muong Khuong.
Total economic losses from the disaster are estimated at over VND 30 billion.

Hailstones as large as a fist were reported, causing damage such as shattered car windshields in Bac Ha in the early morning of 16 April.
Immediately after the disaster, local authorities mobilized commune-level disaster response teams, police, militia, and mass organizations to support affected residents. These forces assisted households in moving belongings, clearing debris, and temporarily reinforcing damaged roofs to ensure safety and stabilize living conditions.
Response efforts were carried out promptly in line with the “four-on-the-spot” principle. Local authorities are continuing to assess and update damage figures to propose appropriate support measures.
The Lao Cai Department of Agriculture and Environment has urged residents to closely monitor weather updates, as conditions remain unstable with risks of further thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and strong winds. Communities are advised to stay prepared and proactively implement safety measures.
