In light of recent abnormal heavy rainfall events in Viet Nam — particularly the recent flooding and widespread damage in the Central Region caused by Tropical Storm No. 1 — the need to apply advanced technologies and forecasting models to enhance early warning, operational decision-making, and disaster risk reduction capacity has become increasingly urgent.
Delegates attending the workshop
Within the framework of the project, the Flood4Cast® platform – a flood forecasting and warning system using X-band radar technology – will be piloted in the Vu Gia – Thu Bon river basin, a region frequently impacted by intense rainfall and flooding.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyễn Trường Sơn, Deputy Director General of VDDMA, expressed his expectation that the project would go beyond technical deployment to generate long-term impact in raising community awareness, renewing disaster risk management approaches, and promoting digital transformation in the field of disaster risk reduction in Viet Nam.

In the time ahead, VDDMA will continue working closely with Belgian partners and relevant organizations to explore the potential for scaling up the project model to other localities – particularly those frequently affected by intense rainfall and flood disasters that cause significant losses in both life and property.
