The heavy rains and floods caused severe damage to property and infrastructure in Lai Châu Province, including: 252 houses damaged, flooded, or affected by landslides (with 28 completely destroyed); and 526 households evacuated or residing in high-risk landslide areas. Regarding agricultural production: approximately 408.5 hectares of rice and crops were buried, swept away, or submerged; dozens of fish ponds suffered bank collapses, overflows, or siltation; and 55 livestock and poultry were killed.
Regarding public works and infrastructure: widespread landslides occurred along four National Highways (4H, 32, 12, 279), as well as numerous provincial and inter-village roads, causing traffic blockages at multiple locations; 2.5 km of irrigation canals were damaged or destroyed; 3 schools were damaged; and 30 electricity poles collapsed. Initial total damage caused by the floods and landslides in Lai Châu Province is estimated at approximately 270 billion VND (an increase of 80 billion VND compared to the report on the morning of July 20).
Particularly in Mường Than Commune, floods and landslides caused 8 casualties and missing persons (6 dead, 2 missing) and left 8 people injured. Regarding housing, approximately 200 households were damaged or affected, including: 24 completely destroyed; 20 severely damaged beyond repair; and 156 directly located in flash flood zones that suffered damage and required relocation to safe areas.
In terms of production, around 300 hectares of rice, crops, and aquaculture were swept away or buried under rock and soil, rendering them nearly unrecoverable.
Regarding infrastructure, National Highway (NH) 32 was severely damaged, leading to traffic gridlock; NH 279 experienced landslides at 3 points, causing localized blockages; and approximately 1,830 meters of intra-village roads were affected.
Regarding irrigation, about 2.5 km of irrigation canals were damaged. Phúc Than Primary School had its schoolyard and classrooms buried under mud, with 40 meters of perimeter fencing, classroom doors, and the main gate damaged. Phúc Than Kindergarten saw around 150 meters of perimeter fencing collapse, 1 storage room destroyed, 4 sets of standardized teaching equipment damaged, alongside other school assets. In addition, 30 electricity poles collapsed, and numerous household goods, food supplies, and belongings of residents across villages were buried or damaged by flash floods. Estimated disaster-induced losses in Mường Than Commune stand at approximately 190 billion VND.
