Dispatched by JICA, Mr. Suzuki Takashi assumed the position of Advisor for Disaster Risk Management at VDDMA from July 2019 to March 2025 within the framework of cooperation between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Japan. During nearly 3 years working in Vietnam, Mr. Suzuki Takashi has tried his best to support and promote the cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan (MLIT), JICA Vietnam Office and many other international partners in the field of disaster risk management...
With more than 14 years of working experience, Mr. Suzuki Takashi has accumulated a lot of experience and knowledge in disaster early warning, natural disaster risk prevention and mitigation, policy development, project development and project implementation in the field. He has applied these experiences in supporting ministerial-level diplomatic activities between Vietnam and Japan; advising the Ministry and its agencies, especially VDDMA to effectively develop and manage cooperation projects in the field of natural disaster prevention and mitigation.

During his working time at VDDMA, Mr. Suzuki Takashi had an assessment and analysis on the effectiveness of the disaster management information system (the project sponsored by JICA) in the management and operation of reservoirs in the Huong River basin in the context of heavy rain and floods in Thua Thien Hue in November 2023; shared Japan's experience and his recommendations for the situation in Vietnam after Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi); joined the advisory group to successfully construct the pilot Sabo Dam, the first debris prevention dam applied the Japanese technology in Son La, Vietnam; shared and provided detailed lectures, instructions on knowledge and experience in river surveys and flood control planning to staff of the Institute of Water Resources Planning; looked for suitable and easy-to-communicate contents on disaster prevention education in schools in Japan to support in forming new cooperation between Vietnam and Japan on enhancing disaster prevention capacity in schools in Vietnam; provided various information and other experiences of Japan on organizational models, plans, construction designs,... in the field of disaster risk management. Mr. Pham Duc Luan, VDDMA’s Director General, the Vietnamese and Japanese colleagues highly appreciated Mr. Suzuki Takashi's contributions to disaster management of Vietnam. He expressed his thanks to Mr. Suzuki Takashi and wished him many successes in the upcoming work.

Director General Pham Duc Luan hoped that Mr. Suzuki will have further technical support in disaster management of Vietnam, discuss with the MLIT and his successor at the MAE to continue promoting the cooperation in the future, especially activities, projects to prevent flash floods and landslides in northern mountainous areas and flood control in the central region of Viet Nam.
