The meeting was held when the rain and flood in the Central region situation is very complicated. From mid-September up to now, three storms and two tropical depressions have occurred consecutively in the East Sea, caused heavy rainfall in many Central provinces, some stations exceeded the total 1999 historical rainfall.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized: "In this challenging and urgent situation, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (CCNDPC) suggests that the central Ministries and sectors, local authorities, social organizations, domestic and foreign donors together with the whole community join hands to support people to overcome difficulties and consequences of natural disasters".
In order to promptly support the people in the Central region to overcome the consequences caused by floods and rains, the CCNDPC) is ready to provide detailed information and connect with local authorities at all levels so that donors can assist people affected by natural disasters.
Sharing with the serious damagesin Central Vietnam, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Mr. Andrew Jeffries said: From October 20-23, there will be 3 delegations under Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership coordinating with Vietnam Disaster Management Authority to inspect and assess damages in the provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, on that basis, there will be specific support so that people can quickly settle down.
At the meeting, the partners of Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership committed to participate in natural disaster surveys and provide assistance and essential necessities for people in the Central region.
# Currently, theStanding Office of the CCNDPC has received a pledge of support from the AHA Center (ASEAN), the US Ambassy/USAID, and the United Nation Development Program (UNDP) in Viet Nam.
Currently, the Japanese Government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA) has decided to deliver aid goods to the people of Thua Thien - Hue province, including 50 water filters and 250 plastic sheetsin orderto supportpeople from storm and flood affected areas can recover from natural disasters and earlysettle down.
These aid goods were immediately transferred from Japan and will arrive at Da Nang airport in two times, the first wave at 2pmon October 19, 2020.
