On August 18, 2026, at the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA), Director General Pham Duc Luan presented the “For the Cause of Agriculture and Environment” Commemorative Medal to Ms. Inamori Makiko, Project Formulation Advisor at the JICA Vietnam Office, in recognition of her active contributions during her tenure and her support for activities in the fields of agriculture, environment, and disaster prevention and control in Vietnam.

Over the four-year period from September 2022 to August 2026, Ms. Inamori Makiko worked closely with the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority and relevant agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate, manage, and implement cooperation programs between Vietnam and Japan, contributing to the promotion of cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

In the field of disaster prevention and control, Ms. Inamori directly coordinated the Technical Cooperation Project on “Capacity Enhancement for Flash Flood and Landslide Risk Mitigation in the Northern Mountainous Region,” which concluded in December 2025. The project achieved a number of important results, including the construction of Vietnam’s first Sabo dam in Son La Province in accordance with Japanese technical standards and the installation of an early warning system for landslides in Yen Bai Province. These activities contributed to strengthening disaster prevention, early warning, and risk reduction capacity in mountainous areas.

She also participated in coordinating emergency relief assistance from the Government of Japan through JICA to support people affected by Typhoon Yagi in 2024 and by disasters and floods in 2025, contributing to timely assistance for localities and communities in disaster recovery efforts.

In addition, Ms. Inamori helped coordinate the Technical Cooperation Project on flood recovery development planning and the formulation of a comprehensive disaster prevention and control master plan for Central Vietnam, which is being implemented during 2024–2027. One of the project’s key components is the development of a flood control plan for the Vu Gia–Thu Bon river basin, contributing to enhanced planning, management, and proactive disaster risk prevention and reduction capacity in Central Vietnam.

Ms. Inamori Makiko has contributed to Vietnam-Japan cooperation programs in agriculture, environment, and disaster prevention and control.

The presentation of the “For the Cause of Agriculture and Environment” Commemorative Medal recognizes Ms. Inamori Makiko’s contributions during her tenure in Vietnam, particularly her role in coordinating, promoting, and implementing cooperation programs between Vietnam and Japan in agriculture, environment, and disaster prevention and control. Her contributions have not only delivered practical results through cooperation programs and projects but have also strengthened coordination, knowledge sharing, and the transfer of expertise and technical know-how between agencies and organizations of the two countries, thereby contributing to further strengthening and deepening Vietnam-Japan cooperation.

Looking ahead, the results, experience, and values developed during Ms. Inamori’s tenure in Vietnam are expected to be carried forward and further promoted through cooperation programs and projects between JICA and Vietnamese agencies. These achievements also provide an important foundation for maintaining close connections and coordination between the two sides, while opening up new opportunities for cooperation in disaster prevention and risk reduction, climate change adaptation, environmental protection, and sustainable development, contributing to practical benefits for communities and people.
