Thunderstorm, strong winds have caused hundreds of houses in the area of Mekong Delta collapsed and unroofed, thousands of hectares of rice fields damaged.

According to the Steering Committee for Disaster prevention, search and rescue of Kien Giang province, from August 1 to now, most localities in Kien Giang have been struck by thunderstorms and strong winds, caussing 104 houses collapsed, 293 houses unroofed. Heavy rains also flooded 32 houses in Phu Quoc district (from 30-40cm). Estimated total value of damage is about VND5.38 billion.

In An Giang, thunderstorms caused 2 houses to collapse completely, 17 unroofted. Heavy rain also speeded up the roof of coffee shops and caused many trees to fall in Chau Doc City. More than 7,100ha of rice were damaged.

Earlier, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds landed in Can Tho City at 10am on August 2, leaving 17 houses affected. Including 4 unroofed houses, 10 ramshackle motel rooms, 1 ramshackle warehouse, 2 collapsed houses. Some trees on Nguyen Van Linh, Ba Thang Hai, Nguyen Van Cu and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia streets have been uprooted, fallen, branches broken, affecting traffic.

By the morning of August 3, 2 people died due to the influence of the storm and the after-storm circulation. The storm also made 2,420 ha of rice and more than 20 ha of crops flooded in Ha Tinh. At present, the water has been drained, the harvest is not affected.

In addition, in Lam Dong, heavy rains on August 2 caused one person injured, 10 trees fallen and a slope eroded.

Meanwhile, in Dak Lak, heavy rain from July 31 to August 1 caused over 930 houses flooded, over 180 hectares of rice damaged, more than 4,200 hectares of crops damaged, over 17,000 poultry and 60 cattle swept away, 28 ha of fish ponds were damaged, etc.

In Ca Mau, rain with thunderstorms on August 2 made 3 houses collapse and 13 houses unroofed.

The People's Committee of Kien Giang Province has just issued a Decision to announce serious situation of sea dyke erosion that needs urgent recovery. Landslides occurred in Vam Dua area (Van Khanh Tay commune, An Minh district) with a total length of about 700m.
