Storm No 1 (Talim), the first storm to form over Vietnamese waters this year, made landfall along Việt Nam’s border with China and weakened into a tropical depression by 4pm on Tuesday, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has reported.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that at 10am on 18 July, storm No. 1 went to the mainland of the southern area of Guangxi province (China), about 60km Northeast from Mong Cai (Quang Ninh province); The strongest wind in the area near the center of a strong storm at level 9, gust level 11. The storm was forecast to move northwest at a speed of about 20km per hour and gradually weaken in the next several hours. Until 16:00 this afternoon, the storm entered the border area of Vietnam - China with strong winds of level 6 and level 8.
Due to the impact of Storm Talim, the Northern Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi island district, Co To) experienced strong winds of level 6-7, near the center of storm level 8. Coastal of the provinces: Quang Ninh and Hai Phong had winds of level 6-7 and gust level 9. The provinces: Lang Son and Bac Giang have level 6-7 winds.
In addition to strong winds, from now until July 19, the provinces in the Northeast and Viet Bac region will continue to experience heavy rainfall, with widespread amounts of between 100-200mm, some places higher than 300mm. The Northwest region will experience heavy rainwith widespread amounts of between 50-150mm; The Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa provinces have moderate rain, heavy rain with common rainfall of 50-100mm. Provinces: Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Lao Cai and Yen Bai have high risk of flash floods and landslides.
According to the Standing Office of the NSCNDPC, up to this morning, the Border Guard Command coordinated with provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Ninh Binh to notify, count and guide 12,668 vehicles with 29,812 people operating at sea to know the movements and directions of the storm to proactively shape and escape from the dangerous area. All boats have entered anchor or moved to a safe shelter.
In the waters of the provinces from Quang Ninh to Nghe An, there are 183 transport ships and 259 inland waterway vehicles operating. Owners of these vehicles have been informed about Storm Talim to ensure their safety.
According to the Deputy Director General of VDDMA (MARD), Deputy Chief of the NSCNDPC Standing Office - Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, localities need to continue reviewing and proactively evacuating people out of unsafety houses, low -lying areas at risk of deep flooding, flash floods and landslides. Organize trimming branches, reinforcement of houses, advertising signs; Ready to implement measures to drain, protect agricultural production, prevent flooding in urban and industrial parks, especially in provinces and cities often occur in flooding when there is heavy rain, such as: Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, etc.
