On June 30, following the direction of leaders of National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on strengthening cooperation activities between Vietnam and the United States, in order to promote longer-term cooperation in natural disaster prevention and control, the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority (VNDMA) coordinated with the US Embassy in Vietnam to organize an online Workshop on Technical Cooperation on Disaster Management between Vietnam and the US.

Mr. Tran Quang Hoai, Vice Chairman of the National Commitee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Colonel Thomas Stevenson, Defense Attaché at the U.S. Embassy Hanoi co-chaired this Workshop. There were more than 30 participants from Vietnam and the US attended the Workshop. On the Vietnamese side, there were leaders of relevant agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnam Meteorology and Hydrology Administration (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), Leaders of the Steering Committees and Standing Offices in provincial level. Overview of VNDMA meeting side
Workshop program includes 4 main topics related to: (1) Introduction of the disaster management system of two sides; (2) Introduce some special vehicles for emergency response in the United States; (3) Support for the construction of National Operation Center for Disaster Prevention and Control for Vietnam.; (4) Cooperation in training on disaster management and discuss the cooperation action plan.
US Embassy in Vietnam will work with the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority to develop a technical assistance program for natural disaster prevention and control between two countries, including training programs and knowledgement exchange on advanced techniques and establish National Operation Center for Disaster Prevention and Control for Vietnam.
