Attending the meeting were representatives of natural disaster risk reduction partners such as: UNRCO, UN Women, Action Aid, JICA Vietnam Office, Plan International in Vietnam, etc.
At the meeting, Ms. Pauline Tamesis, DRRP Co-Chair/United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, said: "DRRP Work Plan for 2025-2030 will embody our collective vision. It will align the Government's priorities in disaster risk management with the available resources and the strategic goals of the Partnership members. The plan aims to enhance Vietnam's disaster resilience by emphasizing on key areas such as policy coherence, risk-informed development planning, and community awareness. But this is just to name a few. As we transition to our work planning session, I invite each of you to engage fully. Your insights and knowledge are essential for refining our priorities and shaping our collective path".
"Let us move forward together, further integrating resilience into the very heart of Vietnam's development narrative. The beauty of the northern-mountainous regions, with their breathtaking landscapes and rich culture, reinforce our conviction that disaster risk reduction is not a luxury, but a necessity." Ms. Pauline Tamesis wished.
According to Mr. Pham Doan Khanh, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Science and Technology (VDDMA), developing the above plan is very important to coordinate efforts to reduce reduce natural disaster risks; Strengthen Vietnam's resilience to natural disasters, focusing on areas such as consistent policy development, risk-inclusive development planning and raising public awareness; The action plan is consistent with the Government of Vietnam's early action initiatives and other organizations' disaster management strategies.
The expected outcome of the plan is to encourage proactive participation of all disaster risk reduction partnership members in disaster risk management activities, promoting a culture of preparedness and response tonatural disasters; establish a unified forum to promote mutual support among members, facilitating access to funding sources for disaster risk reduction initiatives.
Along with that, the expected results of the plan also hope to create a favorable legal environment for the implementation of disaster risk reduction activities of all members of the Natural Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership, ensure compliance with laws and regulations of the Government of Vietnam; promote solidarity among Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership members, with each member contributing to the overall success of the Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership in disaster risk reduction initiatives in Vietnam. This unified action will improve the effectiveness and reach of disaster risk reduction efforts nationwide.
Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Director General of VDDMA- Mr. Vu Xuan Thanh said that each organization has its own priorities, as well as local partners and operating areas. Movement also has different characteristics. As the state management agency for natural disaster prevention and control, the Department hopes to connect organizations, create mechanisms and forums for all parties to closely coordinate and especially make effective use of resources to avoid duplication.
"This is also the goal for us to organize this meeting to contribute ideas to develop the Plan for the period 2025-2030. With the very active and effective participation of Risk Mitigation Partners natural disasters and as a result, we have a list of priority activities in the field of natural disaster prevention and control," Mr. Vu Xuan Thanh emphasized.
The Office of the DRRP will coordinate with the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam to summarize the discussion contents; There will soon be a draft updated plan and more detailed consultation with Partner members and relevant parties to complete and submit to the DRRP Co-Chair for approval as a basis for implementation.
At the workshop, DRRP also discussed related issues such as: Early action, disaster information, raising public awareness and CBDRM, emergency response, knowledge exchange, capacity building among DRRP and Partnership Office.
