A developing tropical depression near Luzon may grow stronger as it heads toward the northern East Sea with level 8 winds and gusts to level 10.

A tropical depression over the East Sea has strengthened into Tropical Storm Co-may, making it the fourth storm to form in the region in 2025.

The storm was officially named "Co-may" - one of ten names proposed by Vietnam and approved by the Typhoon Committee of the Asia-Pacific region.

As of 7 p.m. on July 23, the storm's center was located over the eastern part of the northern East Sea, with maximum sustained winds of 62-74 km/h (category 8) and gusts reaching up to 88 km/h (category 10).

It is moving west-southwest at approximately 15 km/h and is forecast to intensify, reaching its peak strength (category 9, with gusts up to category 11) by tomorrow evening at longitude 116.5°E.

However, the storm is expected to veer back out to sea and gradually weaken over the following 24 hours.

Despite its intensity, Tropical Storm Co-may is not expected to make direct landfall in Vietnam.

Due to the storm's presence, the eastern section of the northern East Sea will experience strong winds ranging from category 6-7, with areas near the storm center reaching category 8-9 and gusting to category 11.

Sea waves are forecast to rise between 3 to 5 meters, resulting in extremely rough conditions.

Vessels operating in affected areas should be aware of the risks posed by thunderstorms, waterspouts, strong winds, and high waves.
