It is expected that today, April 6, The National Center for Water Resources Planning and Investigation, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) will hand over and put into operation the free water supply site in An Khanh commune (Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province).

Free fresh water supply site for people affected by drought and saltwater intrusion in Ben Tre.

This is an activity implemented under the direction of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment - Mr. Tran Hong Ha, on supporting domestic water to combat drought and saltwater intrusion in provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.

Every day, An Khanh needs an average of 70,000 liters of water from this water source, providing for about 1,200 people. The center will continue to coordinate with Chau Thanh district authorities and related units to notify neighboring communes, police, army and forces to use large tank trucks to distribute to people in neighboring communes.

Mr. Doan Van Danh, Chairman of Ben Tre Fatherland Front Committee, said that since the beginning of the year, the situation of saltwater intrusion in the area was complicated, early causing serious impacts on daily life and production of the people and economic development of Ben Tre province.

Currently Ben Tre has more than hundred thousand households living far in the fields, shoals and coastal areas; on the islets and dunes on Ham Luong, Tien and Co Chien rivers; lacking domestic water along the canals and in the garden, due to running out of water storage. To date, Ben Tre Provincial Fatherland Front Committee has received thousands of water tanks, water filters, plastic cans from over 34 organizations and individuals; Many fresh water tankers have been provided free of charge, helping people to overcome difficulties in the current drought and saltwater intrusion.
