The Mission worked with Mr. Dương Văn Tô - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai province: Vice-Chairman of Provincial the Commanding Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue, Provincial Military Command, Provincial Border Guard Command, Department of Public Security, Department of Transport, Department of Industry and Trade, , Department of Information and Communication and Provincial Hydrometeorology Forecast Station.
At the meeting, representative of the Standing Office of the Quang Ngai Commanding Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control reported that: From 19:00 of October 6 to 8:00 of October 8, 2020, there were heavy to very heavy rains in Quang Ngai province and the measured rainfall is ranging 200-450mm, specifically: Ba Cung: 448mm; Son Ky: 456mm; Tra Hiep: 417mm; Ba Dinh: 368mm, Son Lap: 332mm; River water levels are at the alarming levels 1 and 2. In order to proactively respond to heavy rain and dangerous weather at sea, the Provincial Commanding Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue has issued documents and telegrams to direct departments, agencies, and localities to implement response plans; closely monitor developments of rains and floods; timely provide forecast and warnings information to local authorities and people via the mass media, Zalo, Viber, and Facebook so that they can be proactively respond to disasters; organize missions to inspect high flooding risk areas in Binh Son, Tu Nghia, Nghia Hanh, Mo Duc, Duc Pho district and areas with high risk of landslide in Ba To, Minh Long, Son Ha, Son Tay and Tra Bong districts.
Floods in the past few days killed 01 person (Mr. Pham Van Neo, born 1954 in Nuoc Lay village, Ba Ngac commune, Ba To district who died during passing a stream and was swept away by the flood). Some roads eroded and traffic was obstructed.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tien highly appreciated the rain and flood preparedness and search and rescue effots of Quang Ngai province. He emphasized that given the complex developments of rains and floods in the province, in order to avoid possible regrettable impacts, the province is requested to: (i) strictly enforce the Official telegram No. 1372/ CD-TTg dated 8 October 2020 of the Prime Minister and Official telegram No. 20/ CD-TW dated 6 October 2020 of the CCNDPC; (ii) allocate forces to control and guide the traffic through low level crossings, deeply inundated areas or fast flowing flow to ensure safety of people; (iii) Aquaculture production ponds/cages/rafts should be rapidly harvested if they are going to be harvested or taking measures to ensure their safety if they are not to be harvested soon; (iv) Review the population in riverine and low-lying residential areas, areas having high-risks of landslides, flash floods, deep inundation or being isolated due to floods; prepare evacuation plans to safe locations; (v) Inspect and ensure safety of reservoirs, especially small and medium reservoirs, attentions to prompt closing and opening reservoir gates to prevent adverse incidents etc. (vi) closely monitor the developments of flood and rains and communicate to local authorities and people so that they can be proactively prepared.
