The historical flood in 1999
The raining period in the central of Vietnam from Nov 1 to Nov 6 in 1999 was considered to be especially heavy, repeated in a short time with the highest intensity during the previous 100 years. Very heavy rains occurred from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai provinces with the popular rainfall of 600-900mm, particularly over 1,000m in a numerous places of Quang Tri – Quang Nam, and the rain centre was in Thua Thien Hue.
In a day, rainfall was up to 1,422mm, equivalent to the rainfall of nearly 1 year. The flood rose up to nearly 1m per hour. Particularly, at Kim Long station of Thua Thien Hue, flood level was up to 5.81m, equivalent to a 2-floor house.
