On July 12, 2022, Mr. Tran Quang Hoai - Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, on behalf of the Steering Committee's Leaders, visited and recorded mourning books at the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam.



On behalf of Leaders of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Mr. Tran Quang Hoai expressed his infinite condolences and sent the Steering Committee's deepest condolences to the Japanese people and the family of the former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe; during his long tenure as Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Abe has left special and meaningful marks in building and consolidating the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership, especially in the field of natural disaster prevention and control.

In 2015, the Sendai Framework for Action was adopted by more than 185 countries - including Vietnam - at the third United Nations Global Conference on disaster risk reduction with seven goals by 2030, focusing on significantly reduce disaster risks and loss of life, livelihoods, health and property.
From 2017 to now, natural disaster prevention and control in Vietnam has always been interested by the Japanese Government and directly supported the Vietnamese Government with a number of technical assistance projects using non-refundable ODA, typically such as: (i) Project “Emergency Reservoir Operation and Effective Flood Management using water related disaster management information system”; (ii) Project “Strengthening capacity to reduce flash flood and landslide risk in Northern mountainous area”. Currently, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control is coordinating with experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam to build the project "Survey on the formulation of a flood management master plan for flood damage restoration and mitigation in the central region in Vietnam” to assess the current status of the flood disaster warning and monitoring system in the area.
