These are events within the framework of the year Vietnam as Chairman of the ASEAN Committee on Natural Disaster Management in 2023. The series of meetings aims to discuss progress in implementing the ASEAN Agreement Work Program on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) period 2021-2025 to prepare a report for the 43rd annual meeting of ACDM and the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management.

Attending the above events were more than 50 international delegates who were leaders and officials of natural disaster prevention and control agencies of 10 ASEAN member countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the AHA Centre, ASEAN development partners (including China, Korea, Japan, New Zealand) and a number of international organizations in the region. 

Speaking at the opening of the Meeting, the representative of Vietnam Co-Chair - VDDMA Deputy Director General Nguyen Van Tien assessed: "The AADMER work program for the period 2021-2025 has come a long way, and many progresses have been recorded in natural disaster management, especially from the perspective of global leadership, but we still need to make more efforts. On this occasion, The meeting will discuss methods of implementing work at the regional level to achieve better efficiency to contribute more to the realization of ASEAN's vision of becoming a global leader in natural disaster management. ASEAN, in line with the ASEAN Vision 2025 on Disaster Management."

In addition, events during the meeting week were also attended by representatives of a number of ministries, agencies, departments and branches who are members of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control; leaders and staff of specialized units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The 6th meeting of the ACDM Working Group on Global Leadership and the Mid-Term Review Consultation Meeting of the AADMER Work Program for the period 2021-2025 on Priority Program 5 took place on September 13, 2023. Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, VDDMA Deputy Director General, on behalf of the Chairman of the ASEAN Committee on Natural Disaster Management 2023, chaired the meeting.

The Working Group Meeting will review the progress of activities under the Priority Programme 5 'Global Leadership’ of the AADMER Work Programme 2021-2025. The outcomes of the Working Group Meeting will be reported to the 43rd Meeting of the ACDM, scheduled to be held in October 2023 in Ha Long, Viet Nam.

In addition, on September 12 and September 14-15, a number of related meetings will take place: Workshop on the Key Findings of the ASEAN Capacity Building Impact Study and Transition to the Development of ASEAN Capacity Building Roadmap;  Review Workshop on the ASCEND Framework and Workshop on the Development of ASCEND Sustainability Strategy, etc.
