The workshop brought together leaders and officials from units under MOET and VDDMA; representatives from UNICEF Viet Nam; the expert team from Ha Noi National University of Education who developed the draft Guidelines; disaster risk management officers; and High school teachers from seven provinces and cities including Ha Noi, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, and Hung Yen—who are directly engaged in integrating climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction into experiential and career-oriented activities.
The workshop aimed to collect feedback from managers, experts, and teachers to finalise a standardised set of guidelines for unified implementation in teaching and school activities at the upper secondary level. The early issuance of these guidelines is expected to help enhance students’ awareness and skills in disaster prevention and mitigation, climate change adaptation, and environmental protection through age-appropriate experiential learning and career-oriented activities.

Mr. Pham Van Sinh – Deputy Director, Department of Planning and Finance (MOET)
In his opening remarks, Mr. Pham Van Sinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Finance (MOET), stressed the importance of integrating disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into the general education curriculum, particularly at the upper secondary level, to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively while still at school. A representative from UNICEF Viet Nam reaffirmed the organisation’s continued support to strengthen the capacity of both teachers and students in this field.

Ms. Le Anh Lan - Education Officer, UNICEF Viet Nam
The Workshop included a presentation on the draft guidelines, group discussions, and detailed contributions on structure, content, and implementation methods. The outcomes of the workshop are expected to serve as an important foundation for the early promulgation of the official guidelines, contributing to the effective implementation of Coordination Programme No. 01/CTrPH-BNNPTNT-BGDĐT (2024–2029) between the MAE and MOET on disaster prevention and risk reduction in the education sector.
