April 25, 2024, Kien Giang province - Within the framework of the project "Increasing Capacities and Scale for Anticipatory Action including through Social Protection Systems", Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development, Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee coordinated with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to organize the Simulation exercise for Anticipatory action simulation exercise on drought and saltwater intrusion in Nam Thai A commune, An Bien district.

The exercise was attended by representatives of the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA)- Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, FAO in Vietnam, Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, and other related agencies of Kien Giang province, along with the government and people of Nam Thai A commune, An Bien district.

The exercise program was organized to pilot the application of the SoP for Anticipatory action on drought and saltwater intrusion to strengthen the capacity of authorities and people at all levels for implementation AA before natural disasters, support for households in vulnerable groups to improve their initiative and ability to respond to natural disasters to reduce natural disaster risks.


In addition, cash support and water tanks through the exercise will partly support households in difficult circumstances to meet some minimum essential needs and proactively respond to drought and saltwater intrusion in the near future.
