On September 24, 2020, at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong welcomed Ms. Carolyn Carrie Turk, new Country Director of the World Bank for Vietnam. This is the first official meeting of Ms. Carolyn Turk with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development since she assumed the position on July 1, 2020.



Attending the meeting were leaders of the Department of International Cooperation, Vietnam Natural Disaster Manager Authority, Directorate of Fisheries, Directorate of Water Resources, Agriculture Project Management Board, and the Central Management Board of Irrigation Projects, Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Ms. Turk, a United Kingdom national, joined the World Bank in 1998. She has since held various positions, including Senior Poverty Specialist based in Vietnam, Senior Social Development Specialist and Lead Social Development Specialist in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Region, and Country Manager for Rwanda. Her most recent assignment was as the World Bank Country Director for Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan and Eritrea.

Ms. Turk will provide the leadership needed to further strengthen World Bank’s financing and knowledge engagements with Vietnam, including at the sub-national level, so that Vietnam can achieve the ambitious yet achievable goal of being a high-income country by 2045.

During the meeting, Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong highly appreciated the support of the World Bank, along with agricultural experts, natural disaster prevention experts, and rural clean water experts for projects on sustainable agricultural development of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Also at the meeting, the two parties discussed the management activities of 14 ongoing projects and 5 new project proposals, future cooperation ideas on agricultural and rural development, natural disaster prevention and control. With the active support of the World Bank and especially Mrs. Carolyn Turk in the coming time, these projects will be implemented effectively, contributing to the success of Vietnam's agricultural sector.
