According to a report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (Standing Committee of the Provincial Command Committee), early in 2020, natural disasters occurred in Bac Kan province were very complicated and unpredictable; natural disasters such as hail, thunderstorms have caused great damage to people's houses, crops and property. By the end of May 2020, natural calamity had injured 04 people, damaged 5,824 houses, 18 classrooms, 23 public works, 944 ha of crops, nearly 40,000 m3 of landslide, total estimated damage. about 33.4 billion dong. Typically, a hailstorm accompanied by a thunderstorm on the night of 24 and 25/01/2020 (the night of 30 and the first day of the Lunar New Year) caused 3,502 houses, 10 classrooms, 139 ha of crops, estimated damages. damage of about 15.9 billion.

Proactively in disaster prevention, right from the beginning of the year, the Provincial People's Committee has assigned tasks to units, departments, branches and localities to well implement disaster prevention; receive and deploy guiding documents of the Central Government timely to units and localities in the province; The Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Steering Committee issue documents directing and guiding districts, cities and sectors to proactively prepare plans to cope with natural disasters. In the event of a natural disaster, the provincial authorities at all levels have directed localities, units and people to proactively respond and remedy timely and effectively by the motto "4 on the spot".

Protection of dams and important constructions has been paid close attention to by Bac Kan province. Every year, the Standing office of the Provincial Steering Committee coordinates with relevant units to review and inspect the works before, during, after the rainy season, especially the works of irrigation reservoirs, hydroelectric power projects. facilities and means to actively respond to incidents, ensure safety for downstream areas; building work protection plans, disaster response plans for dams and downstream areas; The plans are adjusted and supplemented to suit the actual conditions.

After reporting to the inspection team about the implementation of natural disaster prevention in the province recently, the Provincial Steering Committee has clarified the contents of the mission concerned such as: Protection plan lakes, dams, important constructions; disaster prevention under the motto "4 on the spot"; the participation of forces in natural disaster recovery; construction of response taskforces at the grassroots level; troubleshooting, ensuring traffic safety in rainy season, etc.

On this occasion, Bac Kan province proposed to the Central Steering Committee on Information Prevention and Control on some contents: Consider adjusting the increase in migration support in the form of combining extremely difficult and mountainous areas from the Central source. support the implementation provinces. Unify, guide the establishment of a specialized unit at the provincial level and complete the apparatus for the implementation of the preventive medicine work. There is a specific mechanism to provide funding for the province to support people in dealing with natural disasters. Funding for the province to build and repair a number of natural disaster prevention and control works. Report to the Prime Minister for consideration and funding support for the province in accordance with the proposal in Document No. 485/UBND-KTTCKT dated 06/02/2020 of the People's Committee of Bac Kan Province.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Luong Quang Cuong - Deputy Director of Department of Militia and Self-Defense Force, Head of the Mission highly appreciated the disaster prevention of Bac Kan province. In order to well carry out natural disaster prevention and control work in the coming time, he suggested that the province should well mobilize resources to improve disaster prevention capacity; allocating funding for essential materials to be ready to overcome the consequences of traffic congestion due to landslides and timely relocation of people to avoid causing damage to people and properties when natural disasters occur; organize a shock force to promptly respond to incidents; improve the efficiency of transmission to raise people 's vigilance and prevention of natural disasters, etc.

Before working with the People's Committee of Bac Kan province, the working group of the Central Steering Committee had checked the natural disaster prevention work in Dong Thang commune (Cho Don district). This is one of the two localities of the province supported by the Central Steering Committee to implement the pilot model of building response taskforces.
