Storm No. 5 directly hit Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue causing strong winds and heavy rain in some provinces and cities in Central Vietnam. The Storm and floods has killed 03 people and injured many. Houses were blown away and damaged, of which the most severe damage was in Thua Thien Hue.



Deputy Prime Minister - Chairman of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control sends his words of encouragement to local authorities and affected households, especially families with dead or injured people and collapsed houses.

Due to the influence of storm circulation and cold air, the North and Central Central provinces may continue to experience heavy rains in the coming time. To support people to quickly overcome the consequences of storms and floods and proactively respond to floods, the Deputy Prime Minister - Chairman of the Central Steering Committee requested:

  1. People's Committees of provinces and cities: Focus on directing and supporting people to quickly overcome the consequences of Storm No. 5 and floods, organizing injured people rescue, visiting, encouraging and supporting the families with dead, missing member or collapsed house; mobilizing forces to support house repairing; providing food, not letting people suffer from hunger; restoring traffic, production and activities after the storm.
  2. Central Steering Committee standing office, the National Committee for Incident and Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment: Continue to closely monitor developments of rain and flood, promptly inform, warn and direct branches and localities to respond.
  3. The Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security: Direct forces stationed in the area to be ready to participate in assisting the people to quickly overcome the consequences of storms and floods at the request of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province. 
  4. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development: Direct the restoration of damaged irrigation works and agricultural production; continue to direct the work of ensuring safety of irrigation dams and lakes.
  5. The Ministry of Industry and Trade: Direct EVN Group to quickly repair and restore the power system to serve production and daily life of the people; continue to monitor and direct the work of ensuring safety for hydropower dams and lakes.
  6. The Ministry of Transport: Direct the immediate remedy of landslide areas on major traffic routes, ensuring smooth traffic, especially on Ho Chi Minh roads, national highways and provincial roads.
  7. The Ministry of Information and Communication: Direct the quick recovery of the information system, ensure smooth communication for directions, response and recovery.
  8. Vietnam Television Station, Voice of Vietnam and news agencies: Continue to do well in communication, promptly reporting disaster developments and directing response and remediation.

Other ministries and branches, according to their state management functions and assigned tasks, to actively coordinate with localities in responding and are ready to assist localities in handling and overcoming consequences when required./.
