In 2020, the country had faced many difficulties and challenges due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, together with natural disasters occurring rapidly and especially fiercely, exceeding historical levels across regions of the country. In the Central region, in just 2 months from mid-September to early November, historical storms, heavy rain and floods had occurred. Esspecialy Thua Thien Hue was continuously affected by natural disasters, of which Storm No. 5 and flood in October exceeded the history of 1999, causing serious consequences (49 dead and missing), economic damage amounting to over 2,200 billion VND. However, the above-mentioned damages have been greatly reduced compared to 1999 with improved natural disaster prevention and control capacity, especially community awareness and coping skills.
On the occasion of Lunar New Year 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development cooperated with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to continue supporting 20,000 fishes; 100 gifts (including 1,000,000 million in cash and a gift bag worth 150,000 VND) to 100 households with difficult circumstances, poor households, policy families damaged by natural disasters in Hai Duong commune, Huong Tra district; Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Steering Committee also had many activities to support the province in improving capacity for natural disaster preventiong, particularly building a Standing Office of the Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention and control and search and rescue. In the coming time, there will be more programs and projects to support central provinces, including Thua Thien Hue for post-disaster reconstruction.

Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development - Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control had mobilized resources and advised the Prime Minister to support 170 billion VND, 242 tons of seeds of all kinds and vaccines, chemical disinfectants, water purification chemicals, ... to stabilize people's lives after natural disasters.
On January 12, 2021, the mission continued to visit, encourage and donate 01 automatic rain measuring station to the resettlement area, 01 automatic rain measuring station in the resettlement area; 350 sets of uniforms to students of Tra Leng Primary School; 30 sets of solar lights; 06 tons of sticky rice for all households in Tra Leng commune.
