On 24 January, cold air entered the North Vietnam, causing thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail, especially in some mountainous provinces such as Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen and Cao Bang. Total rainfall from 7pm January 23 to 5am on January 25 was about 20-50mm. Some places had heavy rainfall such as: 82mm in Phuc Yen (Vinh Phuc), 85.0mm in Bo Ha (Bac Giang), 68mm in Lam Thao (Phu Tho), 106mm in Son Tay (Hanoi).



Particularly,there will be heavy rain with thunderstorms in Hanoi from 12pm January 24 to 7pm January 25, rainfall amounts of 20-40mm, especially up to 59mm in North Thang Long , 84mm in Soc Son and 61mm Me Linh. 

Heavy rain and thunderstorms in some Northern mountainous provinces in the afternoon of January 24 (New Year's Eve) has caused 1,555 roofs of fibro cement to be broken and punctured, of which Bac Kan was most severely affected (1,541 houses). After the disaster, local authorities has mobilized local forces to assist the affected households to quickly and temporarily repair damages for Tet.

Right in the morning of January 25 (the 1st day of Lunar New Year), the task group of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control led by the Deputy Chairman- Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong, directly went to Bac Kan to direct the work of repairing the damages, to ensure the peole a warm Tet holiday and a stable place to stay.

Forecast: On January 25, the cold will continue to affect North Central, some areas in the Northwest and Central regions. In the North and provinces from Thanh Hóa to Hue, cold weather appears, especially the provinces of the Northeast and Thanh Hoa from tomorrow will be very cold, some moutainous places will have damaging cold.

The Gulf of Tonkin and the North China Sea (including the Paracel Islands) will have strong northeastern wind sometimes at level 7 and level 8; with rough sea. The Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has requested the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search/Rescue to urgently overcome the consequences caused by thunderstorms, tornadoes and hail, as well as closely monitor the weather to inform all levels of government and people to actively prevent and control.
