On the morning of April 5, an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred around the city of Eilat in southern Israel. There has been no information about casualties as well as physical damage from the earthquake.

In 1927, this area suffered an earthquake of magnitude 6.2, which killed 500 people and injured 700 others. Earlier, an earthquake in 1837 claimed the lives of 5,000 victims.
