Project context
From July 7 to August 9, 2006, heavy rains continuously attacked the Pingtung district, Taiwan. The accumulated rainfall of 1,380mm has completely absorbed into the ground, causing a slope of the roof on route No. 35 to collapse.
ACE solution
Considering the cost, effectiveness, sustainability and field conditions, the design department proposed a complex protection system for restoration. Use ACEGrid® as reinforcement material to build MSE 18m high mechanical stabilized earth wall as a road foundation structure. In addition, a geotechnical and grid connection system is designed to eliminate the problem of falling due to insufficient length of landfill in the geotextile.
Contribution
With ACE's complex and advanced protection solution, a safe, economical and environmentally friendly system has been built. Since the completion of the project in 2007, this site has maintained good stability after experiencing a number of strong storms, including the deadly Morakot storm in 2009.
